At our business meeting Sunday, we affirmed our purpose of living and sharing God's love in Christ for all. What does living God's love look like? Jesus painted a picture of beatitude living in the Sermon on the Mount. The definition of beatitude is "supreme blessedness and happiness." In our search for happiness among the "stuff" of life, have we missed the point? What difference would it make to live out a love for justice and kindness in our everyday lives?
There is a more excellent way of living and it is the way of love. No matter how loving we are...or we think we are....all of us can grow in being love in our world.
Join us Sunday as we celebrate God's love in worship. We will be installing our new Board members and Lay Delegate. It's also the 2nd anniversary of our working together - one year as Interim and one as Pastor. Let's begin year three together in worship.

Claim Your Vocation
We continue this Sunday
with the idea that God has called us, not just by name, but to a special
purpose. When we find and claim our own vocation-that which fulfills us and
creates good in the world-we are freed from the bonds of what others may expect
of us or claim for us. Discipleship comes in many, and sometimes unlikely,
forms.
If it is your desire to
fulfill God's purpose with your life, God will make that purpose known to you.
I heard this somewhere recently: To do God's will you must first know God's
way. Join us Sunday, January 26, as we seek to know God, discover and claim our
sacred vocation. Bring that energy from last Sunday back with you. We had
church Sunday!!!

Who Do You Think You Are?
Depending on where you put the
emphasis, that question can be asked in a number of ways. Back in the day when
I was growing up it was used to put or keep kids in their place. Its cousin
was, "Children should be seen and not heard." Children now days would
laugh at that!
How do you see yourself? A masterpiece
or a mess? Survivor or struggler? Advocate or critic? Getting perspective on
how God sees you might give you a new view of yourself. Take a moment to list
the words that describe who you are, beginning with the most obvious. I am a
woman, a daughter, a sister, a mother, etc. Then join us Sunday and see if you
can add some words that you may have overlooked. You are more than what you
think and I want you to know who you are!

The Text You Live By
Last Sunday we focused on following your star and I hope and pray you are spending the first five minutes with God this week. Sunday you will be given a text to live by. What a great way to begin 2014.
Many months ago while I was working at church on a Saturday, two women stopped by looking for rental space to begin a new ministry in Mobile. I showed them around and the more we talked, the more I felt I was to pursue this possibility. I presented the idea to the BOD and we decided to pray about it. The next time it was discussed we decided to go visit the pastor's current church to learn more about her and see if we might be able to share some of the space with which we have been blessed. Then came the holidays and we never made the trip to Panama City, FL to visit.
I tell you all of that so I can introduce you to our guest preacher this Sunday. She is the Rev Sherlene McClary. She has been in ministry for over 30 years. God has given her a powerful message of restoration, revelation, healing and hope. Pastor McClary has a gift to work with hurting disenfranchised members of the body of Christ, helping those who may have lost their way as well as those who need comforting in knowing the love of God never fails. So she has a lot in common with the message of Cornerstone MCC.
Some concerns have been voiced by a few who are not in favor of sharing our campus with another ministry and I understand those concerns. "But God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7. Therefore we are continuing to explore this opportunity and my prayer is that the Spirit will confirm a decision as we worship together.
I am so encouraged as we begin this new year. God has amazing blessings in store for us. I want to encourage you to miss not one Sunday so you receive your blessing as you begin each new week. I'll be looking for you at 10:45am.
Praying for God's best for you in 2014!

Follow Your Star
The Wise Ones found what they were looking for by following the lighted path. When we trust the "star" that God hung out for us, we move toward life in its fullest and discover joy beyond imagining. As we begin a new year it's important to follow the lighted path. What path is God shining light upon for you? Take time to ask and even more time to listen for an answer.
Confused, indecisive, unsure, stuck, ready to leave the path that's not working for you? Confident, sure, certain? Either way you belong at Cornerstone! Join us this Sunday for Follow Your Star. Let's discover and choose to walk on the path that leads to life, and let's walk it together.
Happy New Year!
